You may have heard of laser dentistry before, but do you really recognize what it’s all about? It’s not always as straightforward as it sounds. (And to be fair, it doesn’t sound straightforward.) Here are a few examples of procedures that can be augmented by lasers. (This post is for informative purposes only; our office might not perform all of these laser services in-house.)
(Dental lasers typically found in one of two varieties: soft tissue lasers for working with gums and hard tissue lasers for working with teeth and bones.)
Relieving pain from cold sores. Cold sores are no fun, especially for those of us who seem susceptible to them nearly continually. By using dental lasers, we can treat cold sores by increasing the speediness of healing time and lessening their painful effects.
Removal of benign tumors. Tumors can form in the soft tissues of your oral cavity, and when those tumors are benign, we can eradicate them from your oral cavity using lasers.
Smile shaping. Some people may find that the appearance of their gum tissue outshines their pearly whites during smiles. (This is sometimes known as “gummy smile.”) We can use dental lasers to shape your gums in a method that enhances the appearance of your smile.
Teeth whitening. Many stains are just too tricky to get out without the help of a dental professional. Oral lasers can also be used as a part of teeth whitening.
